From today's NY Daily News:
Star Jones is fed up with those gay whispers about her husband, Al Reynolds. In her new book, "Shine", the "View" hostess portrays the 35-year-old banker as nothing short of a superstud.
"The first time he held me in his arms sexually, it was almost frightening because we knew our erotic interest in each other could take over every other thing," Star writes breathlessly. "We had an intoxicatingly sexual connection the first two months of our relationship."
So volcanic was their lust that they consulted their pastor, who advised them to remain celibate until their wedding.
"It wasn't an easy decision," recalls Star. "Al is a beautiful man. He's got the legs of a stallion. He'd be a perfect Ralph Lauren model."
If only those mischief-makers from Al's past would stop telling people like us about his bachelor days on Fire Island.
"One day, we would read in the press that Al was out gallivanting with a bunch of women," Star writes. "The next day, we'd read a story questioning his sexuality. I remember my husband saying to me, 'Baby, what am I today?'
And me answering, 'Just who you were yesterday, baby.'" Star tells People magazine, where her book is excerpted, "I don't even deal with that question
[of his sexual orientation]. I know who my husband is."
She'd also rather not deal with questions about whether she had a gastric by-pass operation.
At her heaviest, she writes, "I started reading about different weight-loss plans, from pills to surgery."
She admits to People that "a medical intervention" helped her "jump-start" her 150-plus-pound loss, but she won't talk specifics.
"I will not be the poster child for a particular method," she says. "Only your doctor can tell you what will work for you." The 43-year-old Star reveals that she used to weigh more than 300 pounds. She won't divulge her current weight, but her husband says, "I think maybe the two-piece is coming out this summer!"
And, when it does, no doubt her loverman will be drawing the blinds.

I think that she is extremely intelligent and that she has made an EXCELLENT life for herself. As far as the choices that she has made in a mate, well I really don’t like to pass judgment on other people’s relationships. But if the rumors about his “past life” are true with regards to being ‘formerly gay’, I would not be with him, but that’s just me. She has the right to be with whom ever she chooses.
I think a part of the failure in "Hollywood marriages" is that the public is always dissecting their relationships and watching them under a microscope!
Maybe Star is secure enough with herself and her life, that his past doesn’t bother her. I have not a clue, but to each it’s own ya know what I mean?!?!?

Shawn you bring up very good points. She is a VERY intelligent woman. I admire her in a way to. She has done a lot of positive things and the interview that I saw today about her struggles in life actually touched me.
When we see someone on TV, you just see the exterior persona, but you rarely have the opportunity to know what they are really like. I don’t watch the View although I have seen it in the past. Maybe I show try to catch it so that I can see her point of ‘View’ on the issues of the day (smile).

I don't know much about Star, so I can't comment on her and regardless of what I think of her hubby, I don't have to lay down with him at night so she can have "at him". But as far as the weight loss, Go Star! She looks good although I've seen some recent pictures where she looks sickly thin.

I saw the 20/20 interview. She said she is now 150 pounds (down from 300 pounds). I think she looks sickly to us because (like Al Roker) we are used to seeing her twice her size. I think she looks good. Her husband is gay but he treats her like a princess and maybe she hasnt had good sex from a straight man, so she dont know better...but that MF is GAY! She is an attoney, so hopefully she has that industrial strength TerriMcmillan PreNup.
You didn't miss much Nic. Most of it we've heard before. I've never heard her flat out say "No my husband is not gay" before though. She actually seemed pissed at the question.

Niki I’m very happy for her losing the weight. I know she feels better and her health and overall quality of life have greatly improved so that good….As for the pre-nup, Star is a fricking lawyer. If she did not do a heavy duty, iron clad pre-nup she is an idiot and deserves to give him half (if they divorce). There ain’t know way I would get married w/o one if I had the money she has unless I was marrying some one equally as wealthy, but even with that you still probably need one to make sure things stay on the up and up!

As much as I rat on Star (heh...check out my latest blog entry), I do admire her a tiny bit for losing all the weight, no matter the method.

I like Star. I think she is very intelligent. She also looked good on 20/20 tonight. Though in other interviews she looks very thin and unhealthy. I think she is upset about what folks are saying. She can't admit it but think about this: you are so in love and you want others to think you are the luckiest woman in the world, you want to brag and talk about your love and you do but folks are laughing and you know it even though it is silently. So she stands brave. Remember this was a 300 pound woman who wasn't having sex,probably or she didn't have a man. This good looking man comes along and he wants you badly (her money probably). You haven't experienced this before because you were fat. He tells you he has dip and dabble but that was the past. She wants that man. Star Jones is Star Jones... I don't have much of an opinion on her, but it did annoy me that everytime you turn around, the woman was gushing about the upcoming wedding... But I do like the fact that she stands up for herself... And I was bewildered yet pleased by the fact that she would be a Payless spokeswoman.
But overall, that's her relationship, her choices. If she does go through a bad spell with Al, it's not like any of US is gonna help her through it. So she is right to not give in to peoples' opinion's etc. It's her life...

You know if I was had the resources Star has and wanted to lose weight I would use a "medical invention" to lose the weight too. She may not be the type to work out. I saw a few pics that made her look sickly too and thought she had gone too far. I just hope that she is happy with the choice she made, and loves what she sees in the mirror now.

I would like to second Ladynay and Nicki. Us BigGurls get luving too...but I dont think Star did. Also us Chronologically-Challenged Sistas like the knookie just as much as anyone else...maybe more. Star is a very bright woman and I'm sure Al has told her about his past. For whatever reason, reasons that I can't understand she has chosen to be with this man.
I just want Star to do one thing for me. Wear a wrap when on the beach! It's a big girl MUST.
