What About Those Grammy's

Thursday, February 09, 2006

The Grammy's get me so sick some times, but for some reason I felt drawn to watch them (AGAIN). Plus, I am showing some love for my alma mater.

Twenty members of the Florida A&M University (FAMU) marching 100 band will be on the show performing with Kanye West and Jamie Foxx, so I did want see what they would be doing.

Shouts out to all the RATTLERS!!!!

Strike, Strike, and Strike Again!

Anyhoo, Imma post some pics taken before and during the show. I only chose a few from a gazillion!!! There were just TOO MANY photos to choose from!

View about 450 more pics from the show here!

I'll also keep my commentary short and sweet and let the readers of this post tell what they thought about the following:

  1. The show overall
  2. The presenters (did you like 'em, were they cute, looking a mess, etc.)
  3. The performers
  4. The winners (did someone win the grammy for a category and you think someone else should have won)
  5. The pictures in this post (are they cute, ugly, could they have looked better)
  6. Mary J Blige and Bono of U2-- I thought the performance was terrible and WAY off key. What did you think?

  7. Grammy Photos

Musician Donni Rai -- Now why she gotta be posing like some skank?
She resembles Vivica Fox to me.

Didn't watch, could have cared less....

There are waaaaaay too many awards shows that highlight the same handfuls of folk!

BORRRRRRRRRRING!
I think the main reason that I am watching (which I forgot to mention in the post) is that 20 members of the Florida A&M marching 100 will be on the show. Since that's my alma mater, I did want see what they would be doing and show some love.

Maybe I'll go add that to the post!
I didn't watch the grammy awards for the same reason I don't listen to commercial radio much. Same dozen or so people get most of the play and awards.

Too damn many award shows anyway if you ask me.
Freaky D - you make a good point. It is the same muthafuggers over and over again being honored. The make me so sick! And there are too many shows doing that same shit!

I'll admit the highlight so far is that when U2 won, the played Mariah Carey's song as the walked to the stage by mistake. Now that was a pretty damn funny fug up they did. Now if that is the highlight, that is PRETTY DAMN SAD!

Why is my word verification word "zombi", which is what I'm going to feel like when I get up in the morning ;-(
FAMU is on w/Kanye and Jamie Foxx!!!!!

YEAH!!!!!

This is one time I can TRULY say I'm proud to be a graduate of FAM got dam U!

They made me quite proud tonite.
Baby i was so tired. I was up sent 4 wednesday morning. I didn't watch it
Dang Stone! Why were you up so early? Is that your normal wake time? I surely hope not.

***Okay -- The new hightlight of the show was the performance of "Gold Digger". I was excited to see those rattlers up there doing the damn thang!
What happened to Green Day? Or did I miss you mentioning themon your post. They won the most important award of the night! Best Rock album! Of course it wasn't the best rock album in my opinion, but the album I liked best wasn't up for an award and no one has prolly heard of em, so whatever. I'm just glad green day won...
I watched a little of the show. I love that pic of Sean Paul. I met him in person and he looks better up close! Nice post!

Hey, hey for those Rattlers!!! They made a sistah proud of them last night...they showed up and showed out! They were the only reasons why I watched the Grammys last night and although I waited for over 2 hours to see them, it was well worth waiting to see such a good performance with them, Kanye and Jamie! I happened to love Gwen Stefanl's style and I liked her dress; I thought she was very cute! Mary J was looking quite old and tired in the face, but she's still my girl, maybe she was just having a bad night! I guess I'm tired of that same hairstyle she's been sporting on everything too! Change it up Mary...need to see something new! Again, Go Rattlers!
Chocolate Drop
Yo Nic!!!

What was up with your lil' relative Sly Stone? When I saw him, I thought "Dang... Nic shouldn't let her uncle out the house like that!!!"

LOL!!

I found the show to be a bit... boring, boring, boring...
Big shouts to FAM they rep'd to bad Kanye didn't shout them out though. I'm sure we coulda used the pub.

Peace.

oh yeah the rest of the show was garbage. thanks to tivo, i could fast forward through the beginning.

Didn't see all the show but what I saw was trash! Mariah sounded terrible in the beginning, Ciara can't sing, Mary sounded off key. Only highlight was Kanye and Jamie.

No one have said anything about the Hurricane Katrina tribute. I didn't see it, but it must not have been that good.

props giving to FAMU (much respect to my HBCU's)...they did their thing...everything else was so-so...kanye looked dude from the movie "Fresh".....i thought he was about to sing "Crush Groovin"...good post
I only watched the show to see Jay and Kanye perform...and I knew they was gonna save the best for last.......Jay kills it...thats my baby.....*ITS THE ROC*throws up Diamond sign.........I aint a big Kanye fan but GOLDDIGGER is my ISH!!!!!! and TI damn he look good when he puts his suits on....and LL Cool J can do know wrong...He's like WINE,...gets better with age.....
Missy - you are so right. I was eyeing LL and TI, both looking good last night!

Miz JJ - LMAO...you ain't neva lied about that, LOL.

Verseone - I agree that that they should have gave FAM a shout out. They competed against alot of others to win this chance to perform w/Kanye at the grammy's so they deserved the pub.

Ladylee - LOL, I told him to stay his ass at home but he would not listen to me!

LuvinMe - Damn! you mean to tell be that Sean Paul looks even better?!?! Wow!

Mel - It was toooooooo many damn pics to post them. I just picked a few outta the bunch. I really created this post while the show was still on, so I had no clue who had won what.

Acccomplice - I do need tivo so bad so I could have fast forwarded thru all the bullshyt!

sarccastik - yes much props to FAM!

Chocolate - Yes, FAMU did me proud to!

Southern Gal - yes, the highlight was Kanye and Jamie and Mary J. did sound a damn mess! What's up with that?

Hollywood loves a star and Jamie Foxx is a "star". I offer my congradulations to everyone at the Grammies but Mr Foxx who acts, sings and does great comedy is a truly a man for all seasons. I look forward to seeing what mountains he climbs next on his road to entertainment heaven.

Regardless of all the negative comments about Sly Stone's appearance, he still stole the show because that's what everyone's talking about. Although his appearance was brief and peculiar, he left an everlasting impression and that's what true stars do. I loved the look if noone else does.
Anon - I will Jamie his props because do believe that he is quite talented!

Total - I thought he looked strange but I'm not familiar with what he normally looks like or what he used to look like so I have nothing to compare his look to. I know alot of those 70-80's bands used to dress really crazy like that so I just assumed that the look was normal for him.
i totally missed the grammys except for the first ten minutes when the gorillaz played. oh, and i peeped john legend's performance. that was it. i don't watch shows like the grammys anymore because they don't reflect how the black folk feel about the music, only what a predominantly white voting majority thinks about those folk. ergo, they ain't reflecting my views and i hate the idea of black musicians getting caught up in the "please validate me white folk" move.
I work on Wednesday nights so did not get to see this at all, but checked out who won what.

Let me check again....

I have some preferences where I thought someone should have won but didnt.

Like I thought Nine Inch Nails should have won the hard rock one, and I though John Legend should have won even more than he did.

And I also thought just about everything was better than the Kanye "Diamonds" song in that category.

I liked seeing U2 win a lot, and I liked the choice on "Gold Digger" as well.

What I really think they should have thought about more:

Sitting Waiting Wishing should have won over stevie wonder

and I thought either mr brightside or dont lie should have ownd over this love by maroon 5.

thanks for stopping by my blog.
hopefully I will have something besides filler stuff next time you stop by.
Nikki - you did not miss much trust me!

Friar Tuck - I have never even heard the "Diamonds" song by Kanye West before. At least I don't think I have. I think John Legend deserve more to. U2 cleaned up last night. But what really surprised me is that Mariah Carey didn't win more. I'm not saying that I feel that she necessarily deserved more, but I thought they would have given her more. She has been so popular over the last year!
XTC - you've heard Diamonds by Kanye...

It's the joint where in the chorus he is repeating the words "foreva eva" over and over going up in pitch and all off key....
As usual, the show was too damn long ( but I guess the fact that I lost track of time and didn't realize it was 4 hours long til it was over meant that it was a good show).

I didn't like the presenters at all. I think they overdid it, trying to give too many people face time.

The performances were good. Kanye and Jamie were much better than I expected . . . (then again, I have to be biased since I spent two years in Morgan State University's drumline). I also like the Jay-Z, Linkin Park, Paul McCartney performance, the Mariah Carey performance as well as the Herbie Handcock/Christina Aguleria performance. Christina has so much talent and is letting it go to waste.

How in the hell did Kelly Clarkson beat Gwen Stefani in that first category if beyond me.

You put Sanaa Lathan in the post so I have NO problem with your pics.

I think the Blige'/U2 performance was a bit unnecessary. Just a way to get Mary on the show. Next year will/should be her year. Take a backseat this year.
i didn't care enough to watch. i had to get caught up on all my project runways. the b.f. just told me when to turn over there at the appropriate times. that was plenty for me! plus i knew the bloggers would do plenty of recaps and y'all more than came thru! sit ciara down NOW! i love kelly!!!!! and why are people all like she's denying her idol roots. wtf??? that ain't her man or her job. she gotta have idol out her mouth everytime she appears?? that's b.s.
LadyNay – Imma have to look that song up on the net cause I still can’t think of how it goes. I know when I hear it, I’ll be like “oh yeah”.

Organized - Ah you went to Morgan State huh?!?!?! You’re right about Christina, she is really letting her talent go to waste. I guess she is just in love with her “new hubby”.

I’m surprised the Kelly Clarkson won both of those awards compared to the people she was up against.

Jameil – I’ve never seen project runway. A lot people love that show though.
I watched the Grammy's but wasn't impressed. Its luster is disappearing...FAST. The only part I liked was Mariah's performance of "We Belong Together" eventhough she sounded a mess. (lol) That's my song though! The rest was just blah.
I'll always watch the grammy's it's been kind of the "in thing" recently to say that "i hate them they don't matter."

But their still the most prestigious awards (music wise) around.

Mariah absolutely ripped "Fly Like a Bird" (ripped means good) and did anyone else Randy Jackson on Bass the entire show. Dude has skills...

Kanye was robbed of best album, but I mean it's the grammy's.
Kanye looked like a Broke Back Throw back and probably woke up in a strange man's arms this morning...

I am a lover of Mariah, so I liked her performance, and the rest of it was real regular to me.

Except for seeing Van Hunt sing with Sly and Randy Jackson playing bass, while most of America was watching him on American Idol. Randy get's his paper!
I only watched to see Sly, yall can read about him on my blog. I fell asleep shortly afterwards so I missed Kayne/Jamie with KWC and JFU but I was given the blow by blow by my bar study partner who doesnt drink or cuss, but apparently LUUUVs her some Kanye West ?!?!? LOL
I liked it. I was so happy that Kelly Clarkston won, that was my girl last year.
I like Kelly Clarkson to, but I was surprised that she did not even mention American Idol when she won. She acts like she got to where she is on her own and she didn't. Yes, she has talented but do you know how many talented singers out there NEVER make it? She would not have been up there if it were not for her winning on Idol and I think it is a shame that she would not even say a simple 'thank you'.
My honest opinion..... It was crap and boring.
Some people got awards and nominations for "music abilities"
Sorry i switched off, could not stand it.
